Her gravestone lists her age at death as 62 yrs which would place her birth before 20 March 1815. However, markers are often incorrect. Her marriage license allegation in August 1835 provides her age as 19, which means her date of birth would be after August 1815. The 1841 census puts her age at 25, though that census often rounded to the nearest 5 yr increment. The 1851 census puts her age at 35. In the 1860 U.S. Census, her age was 44. Her age was the same, 44, in the 1870 Census even though son Ruben went from age 7 in 1860 to 17 in 1870.

Burial Notes:
The "Bishop's Transcript" of the Thornton Parish Register reflects that Francis Wardell, age 44, was buried at All Saint's Church in Thornton Dale. His abode as listed is Langdale-end which is technically within Wykeham Parish. However, given that the Wardells' resided in Thornton for about 10 years prior to his death, it is perhaps not surprising for him to be buried at Thornton.
Marriage Notes (Mary Huddleston)
Francis and Mary were married by license at the Seamer parish church. They actually requested a license twice. First in January 1812 and then in April 1812 just before they were actually married. Mary's age was given as 22 on the first and as 19 on the second. Only on the second license was there a record of parental permission from Mary's father.
